
International soloist and educator, Dr. Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski is a native of Costa Rica. He has appeared in numerous solo performances with orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber groups within the United States, Central America, and Europe. Currently, Dobrzelewski is Assistant Professor of Trumpet at West Chester University of Pennsylvania School of Music and a member of the Sonorous Brass, as well as an active freelancer in the Philadelphia area. Formerly, Dobrzelewski held a position as principal trumpet of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and the Lone Star Brass in Texas.
Dobrzelewski is the founder of the West Chester University Chapter of the International Trumpet Guild and WCU’s Annual Trumpet Festival, which features International artists such as Allen Vizzutti, David Hickman, James Ackley, Boston Brass, and George Rabbai. He is also a founding member of The West Texas Brass Project, The Tryptique Ensemble, and “Tromba Mundi” Trumpet Ensemble.
Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski has won prizes at the Selmer Competition in Paris (1999), and the Concerto Competition at the University of Maine (2001). He has published a widely used set of 16 volumes of Orchestral Excerpt books that were utilized during the past two New York Philharmonic trumpet auditions, receiving the following quote:

He also has 2 recordings for trumpet and organ under the “Amie” label, as well as a trumpet ensemble and new music recording in progress. In addition, Dobrzelewski has typeset and edited over 60 works, including the Trumpet Pedagogy book by David Hickman, from the catalogue for Hickman Music Editions.
With more than 20 works commissioned for various chamber ensembles by North and Central American, as well as European composers, Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski is certainly a promoter of new music. A believer that music is for everyone, he is very active in bringing music to the masses, performing in schools, churches, nursing homes, prisons, hospitals, and retirement communities.

Dobrzelewski received a “Prix de Trompette” from the Rueil-Malmaison Conservatory of Music in Paris, a Master of Music Performance from the University of Maine, and a Doctor of Music Arts degree from Arizona State University, all in the area of performance. Former teachers include Regents’ Professor David Hickman, Eric Aubier, Guy Touvron, Wolfgang Bauer, and Jean-Francois Michel.
